Referrer spam out of control

Spam...a lot: Since I don't generally open comments on this website and I've taken steps to prune unsolicited e-mail, I'm not generally much bothered recently by spam of the comment or mail variety. Last night, however, I was crunching a few weeks of referrer logs for various sites I administer and realized that referrer spam is out of control.

There's more crap in my logs about diet pills, a certain inexplicably popular card game and porn, porn, porn (the icky boy-girl kind) than I care to think about. All of it a wasted effort to attract search engine notice (my site logs aren't publicly accessible) and all of it reducing the utility of the site logs as they're intended by at least half.

It's time to think more earnestly about possible solutions, I guess.
