TOYLAND, TOYLAND: Lileks had me laughing out loud with this report from the New York Toy Fair.

Imagine you're a native New Yorker, and you're on the way to your dentist for an emergency extraction, and you approach this corner: You think ah, no, it's Toy Fair week, and there you are fighting your way through a knot of costumed creatures, each containing some sweating kid from Omaha who came to New York because he saw "Cats" at an impressionable age, and just as your tooth shrieks anew you run into a life-sized Furby — he chirps and beeps and burbles and holds out his arms because he wuvs you — well, it's a miracle that no one ever punches a Furby straight in his googly-eyed face.
