Evite Evolves
Evite Evolves: It can be a little jarring when a web application changes the way it looks or works. It can be even moreso when the changes happen while you're using it. Just a few minutes ago, apparently, Evite rolled out some new services and a few interface tweaks on their website. One refresh of my browser and, as I was checking RSVPs for an event, it became a whole new application, Evite 2.0.An application, incidentally, that appears to be integrating some "community" features not found in the original Evite, which was primarily a service for distributing invitations and maintaining guest lists for private events. The new services seem to offer the ability to post public events, and to permit other users to search for events happening near them and, presumably, see a list of folks who'll be attending. There are user profiles and all other sorts of niceties provided.
Sound familiar? Yeah, the new features of Evite bear a striking resemblance to Andy Baio's labor of love, Upcoming.
I'm a fan of the simplicity and elegance with which Evite provides its service; I've said so before. And we'll wait and see who does it better, but my money -- by which I mean, none, since both services are free -- is on Andy.
