Beautiful transit

I've linked to other parts of this site before, but a lot of weblogs are discussing this page about beautiful subway stations around the world.

My overall favorite of the many cities I've visited remains the DC Metro. My pal Drew takes some fantastic pictures of it.

I'm surprised the DC Metro Police let him take all those photos. Subway agencies have been really touchy about that sort of thing since 9/11. (And I remember as far back as '96, you couldn't take pictures in the London Underground...)

I've never had any run-ins with police or WMATA personnel while taking pictures. WMATA has no official policy against taking photos on the metro*. In an any case, it isn't like I loiter in stations taking tons of photos. Most of these photos are just snapshots taken while riding the metro from one location to another.

*On one D.C. photo bulletin board, I have read that they have a policy against tripods for insurance reasons. I'll have to look into that since I would like to take some better photos of the metro some day.
