On September 18, 2000, I joined with nearly 200 other web folks internationally for a project called Behind the Curtain. The aim was document a day in life of those who maintain "weblogs," pages that chronicle our travels on the worldwide web or act as personal diaries. The weblog in The BradLands is just one part of my larger, personal website, but I'm happy to have participated. September 18, a Monday, was for me a very ordinary day and that, I think, is part of the point of the project, to demonstrate in visual terms the very real people who create the websites we read every day. More importantly, and with tongue planted firmly in cheek, it may help to give lie to the fallacy of the "web celeb," or the idea that folks with popular websites are somehow unreachable superstars. Nope, this is a fairly mundane story of my quotidian activities. I'm not much of a photographer, so I've made a few notes along the way to explain what's going on or, more accurately, what's not happening on this very ordinary day. Think of it as an extended About page. And please, do let me know what you think of it. Without further ado, let's begin.
